Important Note About Zoom

For the best possible listening experience, please join your session through the Zoom Workplace desktop app rather than through your internet browser.

The desktop app generally provides more reliable audio and gives you access to Zoom’s music-specific audio settings, helping preserve more of the depth, resonance, and subtle tones produced by the crystal bowls, Tibetan bowls, and other instruments.

You do not need a Zoom account to join your session.

Why the Zoom App Matters

Download the Zoom App

Please download and install the Zoom Workplace desktop app before your session.

  1. Visit zoom.us/download

  2. Find Zoom Workplace for desktop

  3. Select Download

  4. Open the installer file once it has downloaded

  5. Follow the installation prompts

  6. Open Zoom when the installation is complete

You do not need to create or sign into a Zoom account to join your session.

Quick Check Before Your Session

When you click your private session link, your browser may ask:

“Open Zoom Meetings?”

Select Open Zoom Meetings to launch the desktop app.

If you see Join from your browser, please open or install the Zoom app instead for the best possible listening experience.

Enable Original Sound for Musicians

Zoom normally uses noise suppression and echo cancellation to make spoken conversations clearer. These filters can sometimes reduce the sustained tones, overtones, and quieter details of musical instruments.

For a fuller listening experience, please enable Original Sound for Musicians before your session. Zoom’s current desktop instructions place this option under the Audio settings.

On a Laptop or Desktop Computer

  1. Open the Zoom Workplace app

  2. Click your profile picture or settings icon

  3. Select Settings

  4. Select Audio

  5. Under Microphone modes, choose Original Sound for Musicians

  6. Enable High-fidelity music mode, when available

  7. Join your session

  8. Make sure Original Sound for Musicians is turned on during the meeting

Zoom may also show options for echo cancellation and stereo audio. Please leave echo cancellation enabled unless you are using headphones and are comfortable adjusting advanced audio settings. Zoom advises that disabling it is most suitable when headphones are isolating the microphone from the speakers.

The exact wording or location of these settings may vary slightly depending on your device and Zoom version.

Best Device for Your Session

Recommended: Laptop or desktop computer
Acceptable: Tablet
Less ideal: Smartphone

A computer generally provides the most reliable connection and gives you greater control over Zoom’s audio settings. Smartphones may apply additional audio processing and may not offer all of the same sound options.

Headphones and Speakers

For a rich and immersive listening experience, wired headphones or wired earbuds are recommended.

Bluetooth headphones and wireless speakers can still be used, but they may occasionally introduce a slight delay, connection interruption, or additional sound compression.

Use whichever option allows you to feel comfortable and hear the session clearly.
